The Judiciary, Ethics, and Privileges Committee is established to uphold the integrity, discipline, and lawful conduct of the legislature. It ensures that the Assembly’s operations and its members’ conduct are guided by constitutional provisions, ethical standards, and parliamentary privileges. Judiciary Oversight
Review and interpret matters relating to legislative procedure and constitutional compliance.
Examine legal issues affecting the Assembly’s operations and recommend appropriate legislative or procedural actions.
Liaise with judicial bodies on matters affecting the Assembly’s jurisdiction and authority.
Ethics and Conduct
Develop, maintain, and enforce a Code of Conduct for Members of the Assembly.
Investigate allegations of misconduct, corruption, or abuse of office by members.
Recommend disciplinary measures or sanctions in line with Assembly rules and due process.
Privileges
Safeguard the rights, immunities, and privileges of the Assembly and its members.
Investigate and address cases of contempt, obstruction, or violation of Assembly privileges.
Ensure that parliamentary privilege is not abused for personal or political gain.
Advisory and Reporting
Provide legal and ethical guidance to members to prevent breaches of conduct or procedure.
Submit periodic reports to the Assembly on its findings, recommendations, and actions taken.
Propose amendments to Standing Orders or legislative frameworks to strengthen ethical governance.
